Report on activities using “Mittleider Method of Gardening and Field”
for Russian Commonwealth Countries - 1989 – 2004
The
Mittleider gardening project has been implemented in the Zaokski Theological
Academy from 1989 up to the present time. Its founder is an international
gardening consultant named Dr. Jacob Mittleider. His method is the most modern
technology, providing guaranteed high yields of ecologically clean vegetables.
He offers to reduce usage of land, time, resources and work.
Timetable of courses for 2005 – 06 The main program (12
weeks);
Intensive program (4 weeks)
3. From 1 May – 31 May Ř
During 15 years of Course
Center activities 750 people (gardeners) have been trained Ř
Over 300,000 copies of study
materials (books by Dr. Mittleider) have been published Ř
Over 80 local seminars have
been conducted by graduates during each trip to cities Ř
Participation in
city-exhibitions - 6 cities – 9

Participation in
whole-Russian exhibitions – 15 times The work of the graduates: 1.
Big agricultural companies - 5 people (Tula, Kuibishev, Perm, Kirov, Chernovtsi) 2.
Small agricultural companies - 10
people (Yaroslav, Gomel, Arseniev, Kishinev) 3.
More than 50 people conduct the lectures regularly (Moscow, Tula, Arkhangelsk,
Ekaterinbourgh region, Sahalin, Perm, Izhevsk…) 4. More than 200 people conduct the lectures periodically (Tula, Danilov,
Pskov, N.Novgorod, Krasnouralsk, Toliatti, Kirov, Kiev region (Boguslav reg,
Trebukhov reg.), Izhevsk, Solikamsk, Novocherkask, Nakhodka, Komsomolsk on
Amour, Magadan, Minsk, Navoi…) About the activities of the graduates and those who are just practicing the Mittleider technology using information from different books. Information collection has been done since the year 2000. We obtain
information from emails, journals, newspapers, telephone and personal interviews
with individuals. To conduct local seminars Mittleider Method-trained agronomists have
visited the following 32 cities: Moscow, Pushino, Chekhov, Podolsk, Lakinsk,
Fryazino, Smolensk, Gagarin, Serpukhov, Obnensk, Yasnogorsk, Toula, Aleksin,
Kireevsk, Schekino, Orel, Ryazan, Voronezh, Kropotkin, Tambov, N.Novgorod,
Dzerzhinsk, Saratov, Engelsk, Ekaterinbourgh, Oktyabrski, Gomel, Vitebsk,
Arkhangelsk, Krasnoyarsk, Magnitogorsk, Melitopol. In those cities 10-day
courses of the “Mittleider gardening program” were taught. Audiences have ranged in size from 50 to 2000 people. In each
city the listeners have shown lively interest, asked many questions, and in
personal talks people shared their experience, as many were already aware of the
method and practiced it for many years. This provides strong evidence that there
are people in each big city already knowledgeable in and practicing the
Mittleider method, often only hearing about it through Literature sources. We
believe without any exaggeration we may say that the Mittleider method is the
most popular and practical technology among gardeners to produce ecologically
clean and healthy food anywhere in Russia and the other CIS countries. Russia Pobeda

parcel of land in the “Forest fields” cooperatives. Frankly to say, we
weren’t happy about the land because it was in the territory of ….. The land
was bad and nothing grew the first year. The failure went on for many times and
we doubted the value of planting anything there. Then, by accident, we got the
book “The Mittleider Method Gardening Course”. I studied it for a whole
year. I couldn’t understand everything, especially how the space between the
ridges could be 45cm wide with aisles 1m wide. The reason for my doubt is that
in the North people are accustomed to using the land economically, and we
traditionally plant with wide rows and narrow aisles. This is because our land
isn’t very big. Russia.

is with great thankfulness we write to all collaborators of the training center. For 20 years we have
owned countryside land of 600 (meters square?), it is a marshy area, and just
torture to work in. It’s now 2 years since we have retired and decided to take
care of the garden seriously. We heard that courses were being taught on the
Mittleider Method in the SDA Church, by a former graduate of the Zaokski
training program of 2000 named Revta Natalya. I attended all the lectures with
my husband, made notes and put down all advice. We were very interested to
discover how simplified the care of the plants was, to see the order and
accuracy in the whole garden, and learn to make the fertilizers by ourselves. Listening to the
lectures and watching video-films, we decided to change the whole garden into
narrow beds in the spring. As the garden is in a low area we built grow-boxes.
We planted tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, cabbages, and onions.
We were surprised at the lack of weeds!
We watered the plants with the nutritional mixture and the crops grew
healthy and strong. For the first
time in our lives we grew 240 vines of tomatoes and we harvested large
quantities of assorted tasty and sweet ripe fruit. To our surprise the
cucumbers were hanging like bananas, and in such big amounts that we were
jumping with joy. The taste of the fruit was amazing and the most important
thing was that we didn’t find any negative affect by using chemical
fertilizer, about which we had always been strictly warned by our friends and
neighbors. The first year was experimental, and from the results my husband and
I were delighted. We are very thankful
to Mittleider for his method and all those who are busy with its spreading. Russia.

vegetables with the Mittleider method, and I planted all the crops in narrow

everything became green and starting flowering we walked through the garden and
enjoyed it. Our neighbors started
to whisper that something was going on there, something different than their
traditional gardens. Now my husband
and I are very happy with the results and are pleased with the new method
because nowhere in the district does anyone else have such a wonderful garden Russia

with growing vegetables for many years. Within this period we have read a lot of
literature and tried different approaches for planting, in order to find answers
for the solution of difficult problems. We planted practically everything in our
garden. Some grew well and some
failed. By accident I found an article about the Mittleider Method and it
described how to increase the yield by many times. At first we didn’t believe
it but we decided to try it anyway. The seedlings grown in artificial soil, that
were watered regularly with the nutritional mixture, were very healthy, strong
and pretty for the first time ever in our experience . Then we started to
build grow-boxes and the first crop that was planted was potatoes. The yield
from these seedlings was wonderful. We then planted other crops with this method
and they all were great, and year-by-year the yield increases. In the countryside
land everyone participates in the activities, both grown-ups and children,
including grandparents. Our garden has changed and become beautiful and neat.
Working there is joyful. This beauty attracts even our neighbors. We didn’t change
the area of planting, we only changed the technology of planting and used the
Mittleider Method. And now look at the results in kg per 9-meter bed.
The first graph is cucumbers, second is peppers, third is tomatoes, and
fourth is squash.

the above graph it is obvious that the Mittleider technology brings good
results, and the constant year by year increase shown by the columns, shows the
professionalism of the agronomists who taught us. It should be noted
that the method is used successfully in the Northern region of Russia and holds
great promise for wide usage in all regions. Russia 163059,

Andrey B. The SDA church
gardening department of the motor-factory region was less than a year old. But
after listening to the Mittleider gardening lectures, which were done by a
graduate of the Zaokski Institute named Victor Osadchuk in 2000, all the group
members from the church decided to conduct an experiment. In the yard of the
church building we made 2 grow-beds and planted carrots and radishes. We took
care of those plants all summer as we were taught, and following the advice of
the Mittleider books we arrived at harvest time. We were waiting for September
17, 2000 with special impatience in order to harvest all that God sent us from
these grow-beds. After harvesting we decided to sell all vegetables, as there
wasn’t a storeroom in the church. We all were surprised by the harvested yield
and though we sold them for a lower price than usual we collected 405 rubles,
with which we created a special fund for the gardening department development
for the coming year, to buy fertilizer, inventory and seeds. We should note that
for the department development in the spring we spent 100 roubles in the church,
and as a result we received a profit of 305 rubles. For the next year we
increased the number of the grow-beds up to 10 and increased the assortment of
crops. As a result of the work of the department in 2001 we received a profit of
950 roubles. In this way the
department work of our church was blessed and the number of the supporters of
this method increased gradually, and is increasing up to today. We can assure
you that in Nizhni-Novgorod God’s work is spread both in words and with
actions.

Lyubov Ivanovna I have experimented
with your method for about 4 years by planting crops in my garden. I want to say
that the results are impressive. I am already 65 years old and I haven’t
enough energy to dig all the land, that’s why I dig only the grow-bed areas
and plant everything according to your method. As for me this is a great relief
to my work in the garden. I am very happy to
have chances to watch your program on TV, where you explain about the Mittleider
Method. I am very sorry not to be
able to put down all of my questions, as many questions arise, such as how can
we get rid of phitophthera, and how can we get rid of ants?
What prayer do you
start your work with? I don’t know, as we have been raised far from the Church
but I realize that that’s bad. I
will be very thankful to you if you can help me. Russia,

Evelina Dear friends!!!!
I am writing to you more than once. Thanks for the books I got from you. Most of all we liked
the book Healthy Vegetables. My husband and I are just fascinated by this book
and we want to express our admiration and gratitude to the author for his
titanic work. In 1992 we first read
about the Mittleider Method in “Nauka and Zhizn” (Science and Life) journal.
Since then we changed our garden into the Mittleider narrow grow-beds.
Since 1995 my husband has been busy teaching this method in our city.
People from the TV stations have visited us several times, newspapers have
written about us, and visitors come on excursions from the Vladivostok
countryside and even from Sakhalin island. In our garden we have
92 grow-beds. About 60 kinds of crops are planted there. We are more than
satisfied by the yield from our garden. This method gives great results in our
region and for a gardener it brings great satisfaction and joy. Russia,

Lyubov Nikolaevna About 10 years ago I
read about the Mittleider Method in a journal. I liked the description of that
technology and I decided to try it in my garden. I changed my greenhouse and
made narrow grow-beds and since then I plant everything with only the Mittleider
method. We are very happy that God sent us such a man. He opened our eyes on how
the work should be done. Now it’s pleasant
to go into the greenhouse, but before we had to crawl inside of it because of
brushwood with fear that we would break the plants. Now the crops are planted
properly and taking care of them is a joy. My granddaughter is a
scientist-agronomist. She lives and works in the Mourmansk region and has her
land of 1,800 m, where many people go for en excursion to admire the garden.
She gets all the information from us and we don’t have enough
literature as usual. We share a book with one another. If it is possible, please
send us the books of Mittleider C.O.D. We are thankful for your help beforehand! Russian

Raisa Alexandrovna I decided to write
you a short letter and tell you about our success in the garden. I couldn’t
manage to get literature about the Mittleider narrow grow-beds before 1997.
Since then I grow vegetables only in narrow grow-beds, like cabbages,
cauliflowers, onions, carrots and so on. I am very satisfied with the results. This year I decided
to try to grow tomatoes in the greenhouse in grow-boxes. I grew seedlings myself
and transplanted them into the grow-beds on April 7. I warmed the greenhouse
with 2 ovens in the spring. It was not easy, of course.
But for the first time in my experience tomatoes matured on 3 hands and
in the rest there was good fruit up to 9 hands high. Russia

available. Since then we always grow vegetables in narrow grow-beds, along with
my parents. The method justifies the change from traditional methods, with its
expense and great results. The neighbors, at
first, were against this, but when they saw the results in our garden they made

u10853@dialup.podolsk.ru I heard about the
Mittleider method in 1990 when I first went to Zaokski without being a member of
SDA church yet. I went to the seminar with the teacher Oleg Mikhaylovich
Senin’s invitation as a correspondent of “Ogonyok” (Fire) journal to write
an article about Adventists. Then I heard the word
Adventist for the first time and I was interested to know the followers of this
church closer. I stayed in Zaokski 10 days, which changed my whole life. I wrote
an article but it was not published until 10 months later. Prior to that I
accepted the invitation to be baptized in the central community of Moscow. Besides the wonderful
things I saw in Zaokski, I was told about an agricultural firm where everything
was planted with the Mittleider Method. Then I managed to see professor
Mittleider personally who taught the seminars. His books were only being
translated at that time but what I saw in March in a greenhouse with my own eyes
excited me very much. I had never dreamed
of working in the garden before. That work seemed hard and unfruitful to me. I
didn’t have my own land and I didn’t grow even a grain my whole life, and I
wasn’t going to plant if Mittleider wasn’t there. When the first book
was published I bought and read it. The
promise of receiving high yields with less expense looked wonderful and
unbelievable to me. Then I had a chance to try my abilities and the promise
given in the book as a practical experiment. Our family with a 10-year-old child
moved to a countryside area, i.e. to a piece of land where the landlord let us
make several grow-beds. And as I had such a chance I decided to experiment with
this mysterious Mittleider Method in the nearby Moscow loam. My husband helped me
to dig the soil; I mixed the fertilizer using Mittleider’s formula. I planted cucumbers,
squashes, greens, radishes. Frankly, I didn’t have much hope about the
results. But when my cucumbers grew under the open air and the landlord’s
plants failed to grow in a greenhouse, and when the neighbor was surprised by
the full tubers of my radishes and her radishes were bad although she was a
gardener, then I realized that there was something here. I was a beginner in
gardening I just did all the instructions accurately. But the results were so
great that since then I grow only by that method if I have a chance. I am a busy
person and I like to see that my work in the garden is appreciated.
Everything grows as it’s supposed to and there is almost no weeding. My neighbors don’t
believe the story and then I invite them to my garden. They are surprised and
ask for the book to read. And to start talking about the garden is great to
start with a talk about God. I share my ideas with people starting with the
Mittleider book and then spiritual literature. Work in the garden
using the Mittleider Method is a good work out. When you take care of plants
such an amazing world opens in front of you, friends. A miracle of God happens,
and the most wonderful thing is that you become a participant in it. And when
wonderful yields, great salads, tomatoes, and cucumbers are added to all these
you receive great happiness. Thank you, Dr.
Mittleider. Russia Perm

conducted lecture courses, and during the spring and summer times we taught by
doing outdoors in the garden. In the spring we held
seminars, and in the fall we organized an Exhibition of Yield day when lots of
people would share their experience. The number of the Mittleider Method
supporters grew fast. Gradually we also gained supporters in the nearby cities.
We organized several representatives of our center in different cities where
literature of vegetables, seeds, inventory, etc. are being distributed. Now we can assure you
that the Mittleider Method in the Urals is the most popular and famous one. Now
we already have our big offices in Ekaterinbourgh, Izhevsk, Solikamsk and in the

“Garden for health”. I am
writing you because of an impression I received at the last seminar I attended.
I have loved gardening, flower and park gardening since my childhood. I am an
agronomist and I’ve worked in an agricultural department for 20 years, and now
I realize that “live a century learn a century”. After the lecture
courses everything in my mind was messed up. When I was listening to the
lectures I had lots of questions in my mind. I even had an argument with my
husband and daughter. But I decided to try it in my garden. The first crop to
surprise me was carrots, which produced a large yield of full, juicy roots. I
planted a grow-bed of cauliflowers and by July they had one and a half heads,
averaging 2kg. But in neighboring land with our traditional method I used to get
heads only in September with 500-700g. I
could write pages of examples like the above.
I have unbounded admiration for the Mittleider method. Now in October I
am looking forward to spring. I won’t doubt any longer. I am sure of success.
Thank you, and thanks to Dr. Jacob Mittleider. Perm Kashina

And we gradually changed them into the new technology. I sent some of my
colleagues to the Zaokski program to speed up introduction with the technology.
I went to Zaokski myself many times for consultation with the professor, I
learned everything step-by-step, got stuck and fell down, started again, and
over time I became experienced. Two years later I could grow 100 tons of clean
and healthy vegetables with my group and in such an ecologically bad region as
ours! The laboratory
analysis for the vegetables shocked all the employees of the agricultural
testing department, with the lowest level of nitrate and pesticide that they had
ever seen within the last 20 years. Now we are actively
busy with marketing, and we advertise the production and the method in the local
press. But our main goal is to
teach our people to grow healthy food for themselves, and to be able to find joy
and esthetic satisfaction in it. At first the customers met us with smirks but
now they come up to us and ask how to use the Mittleider Method in their
gardens. We recommend they
stop relying on stores; keep fate and their health in your own hands; that’s
our answer. If you don’t sit
still and work then you will be able to feed yourself and others, too. It’s
high time to watch what we have on our tables to eat. By growing clean healthy
vegetables, you can make yourself healthy, earn much, and make life more

St-Petersburg, 2004 (60 degrees N latitude) I heard about the
Mittleider technology from journals and books. I have use the method since 1998.
I will discuss some details about my growing potatoes.
The place is characterized by early fall and late spring frosts – as
late as mid June On this land there was a forest of birch wood. The soil – the upper
layer is red peat, deeper – black peat from 0.8 – 1.4m.
2. Top-dressing was done 3 times, starting on the 4th day. 3. No watering followed (?). 4. Twenty five percent of the yield of 2003 was destroyed by insects.
Over the course of several years I have tried to grow plants by different
methods, and I believe that the methods taught by Dr. Mittleider are the best.
I’ll be happy if you could teach me something new, especially about
growing potatoes. I was among the guests during Zaokski day opening doors – May, 2004. Respectfully, Sergey Petrovich Zuev (General engineer in “Technical supervision” governmental

countryside land for the first time, we were happy with the results. Besides,
the work in the garden wasn’t difficult but it was joyful. The garden is
easily and simply cultivated, thanks to the good and well-planned method.
I want to mention
that now we go to the countryside not only to work but we also have time for
complete rest in the nature as plant care has become easier, which is easy
enough for our kids to do, too. We are thankful to those who spread this method
and especially Dr. Mittleider. Russia,

Valentina Vasilievna (picture) I got acquainted with the method through the books I bought in the church
– “The Mittleider Gardening Course” and “Let’s Grow Tomatoes.”
The method is described very clearly and looked easy, and I decided to
try it. The first year I saw the
first positive results. Now I use that method constantly. My garden is 600. I changed
whole garden into narrow grow-beds in 1996.
I grow all vegetables with only the Mittleider method.
Starting from May to October I have fresh vegetables in my garden not
only for me but for sale, too. In a simple greenhouse I grow cucumbers and tomatoes.
In the grow-beds radishes and carrots, cabbages and cauliflowers, and
wonderful turnips are grown. I am very pleased with the technology and I am thankful to God for such
people like Dr. Mittleider who share their valuable experience with others. Let
God help him with his health. Russia

Kouban. The most abundant yields of
grain for bread are harvested in Kouban soil, which is much better than the
yields from most personal family plots. Most
people living and working with the soil for many years don’t have the yield of
vegetables which the soil is capable of when you use it correctly (as with the
Mittleider Method). Right after finishing the studies, I started getting ready for the coming
season. We built a greenhouse, made
seedling boxes, markers for pointing the spaces for planting, and everything
else needed. I got ready for the next season completely. In the spring, when all the gardening work started, there was no time to
take good pictures. I grew seedlings for myself and for sale. They grew very
well and I earned enough, so that I decided to enlarge my activities later. In
the greenhouse I grew tomatoes and cucumbers. Everybody was surprised with the
abundant crops. The yield was enough to cover all the expenses of the greenhouse
construction and some more money was left for further development. On the whole, the first year’s work produced good results. I saw my
mistakes and I figured out what I should do to do better for the next year. The
method showed wonderfully in our region. I am telling our teachers hi and wish them good luck in their work. Russia,

of 1997 I live in a small town of Danilov. In my garden of 30.000 I built a
greenhouse. At first I grew only seedlings, and then I added cucumbers and
tomatoes. The first positive
results made me desire to develop this work. I started to grow crops in the
wintertime, also, which brought a good profit. I bought a motor-block and some more equipment and my work in the land
went on more successfully. I sold the grown produce in a local market and moved
to the Yaroslavl market. The laboratory analysis showed such wonderful results as to surprise the
staff of the laboratory. In order to spread the technology I decided to conduct an experiment in
the school-yard of Secondary School
# 2 in Danilov. We grew vegetables with schoolchildren of the 8th and 9th
grades using the Mittleider Method, and got results that seriously impressed the
teachers of the school. We managed to grow huge cabbages, big heads of
cauliflower, giant pumpkins, and potatoes where the weight of a tuber was up to
1kg. Of course, this was the first positive experience in growing food for the
schoolchildren, and the first excitement, pride, and self-respect for winning
they’d experienced in their lives. This voluntary work that I did very often let to the introduction of new
people to the method, and to my participation in numerous seminars and
exhibitions. I got a new diploma from the Danilosk municipal region agricultural
complex and department of education for demonstrations and introductions I
conducted with the new method. I also got many official documents and diplomas
from the regions and city administrations for participation in different
competitions and public showings. Local and regional newspapers published many
articles about these. I want to mark that we use the method successfully in our
region and it brings abundant yield and great joy, new acquaintances and kind
relations. I tell everybody hi and wish good luck. Russia

I entered the Zaokski program especially with the aim of using the method
for my living, as there is no chance to work in a factory. Right after the
studies, I started to work in the garden seriously. The first results encouraged
me. Now I grow everything in my garden by the Mittleider Method. This year from 3 pails of potatoes I planted, I harvested 75 pails, of
the “Nevski and Lukovski” varieties. I harvested good yields of carrots,
cauliflower, Chinese and regular cabbage, corn, tomatoes and cucumbers, black
radish and many other crops. My neighbors watched my garden carefully all summer and in the fall they
came to me to study and I read lectures in a city culture house. Of course,
there is a serious problem with fertilizer, as they are expensive and there
aren’t all components readily available for mixing for top-dressing. Very soon journalists, and correspondents of radio and TV stations
started to visit my garden. They suggested sharing my experience and skills with my
neighbor-villagers. In fact, Dr. Mittleider’s work having good and useful
information, and his experience in many countries bringing great results, should
be available for everybody. Since then in the “Farm and the Countryside” newspaper there is a
heading with “School of Mittleider in Sakhalin.” Also a gardeners’ club
has been organized, where we have regular meetings, share our experience with
one another, and in the fall we hold a day of harvest and other activities. Now I am busy with arranging another seminar for invalid people. All
expenses will be covered by a charitable fund. Dear friends and colleagues, I
assure you that the method that you spread brings people joy from the best
results of their work, and no matter how far we are from each other, we can do
that common work together. I wish everybody good luck and strong health. Please tell Dr. Mittleider hi with gratitude. Russia

of 1996 I use and teach the Mittleider method in Pskov city and in the
surrounding region. I present the
lecture courses on a local and regional TV station. A gardeners’ club has also
been created in the city where 50 people meet. This method is quite well known and used among gardeners in this area,
and by trying it they get wonderful results. We are very pleased with the
results. I am telling Dr. Mittleider hi with wishes of good health. Russia Samarskaya

of 2004 After using this technology I want to say that it is good, with its
universality of usage in any climatic and soil conditions. Now working in the
garden is a pleasure for me and I get high yields of healthy vegetables. The
method is verified, simple and available. All elements of growing are integrated
into the system and they are easy to accomplish. It’s a pleasure to work in such a garden. I have seen no disadvantages in this technology. Next year I
am planning to enlarge my garden. The only concern for the neighbors is using mineral fertilizers. The
whole city is surrounded with chemical factories, and the chemicals discharged
into the atmosphere affect the plants negatively. I have decided to strongly promote this method, make people
feel sure about it, and share my great experience with our citizens. The

of 1989 I am sending my teacher Dr. Mittleider my warmest hi. I use the method
very successfully in my garden. I built a greenhouse on a big area of 1000 and I
grow tomatoes and cucumbers. Each time my crops produce abundant yields. For several years my neighbors watched me and now they are trying to use
the method in their gardens, and are seeing the big difference in their yields.
I am glad that this is one of the most effective ways for gospel advocacy to
people as it benefits people, eases their work with soil, and gives happiness
from the increased harvested yield of healthy crops. Belarus
